19th UIC RAME meeting held in Tehran

TEHRAN, May 03 (UIC RAME) - A document on the "current outlook to the Middle East railways" has been drawn up based on the activities of the Regional Assembly Middle East (RAME), Director General of the Railways of the Islamic Republic of Iran said Tuesday.

"current outlook to the Middle East railways, moving forward on the right track has been drawn up with collective efforts from the RAME member states which introduces the current status of railways in RAME states as well as various railway projects currently under construction," Abbas Nazari, DG of Iranian Railways, said at the 19th UIC RAME Meeting held in Tehran on 2 May 2017 on Tuesday.

According to him, the document comprises four main sections for introduction of each member state, a general overview of the status of transport, an extensive review of railway situation in each member state, information about railways of member states, as well as the history and railway projects in each country.

Nazari called on RAME member states to cooperate with the assemblys regional office in Tehran for the completion of the document, adding "in the next meeting, another document will be unveiled on the topic of corridors through the Middle East region which connect Asia to Europe."

He further noted the upcoming International Exhibition of Rail Transportation to be hosted by Tehran for the fifth consecutive year on May 15-18, 2017, calling on all RAME member states to take part in the exhibition and introduce the industries and services of Middle East railway companies.

Iranian as well as foreign companies from Russia, Germany, China, Italy, Sweden, Turkey, the Czech Republic, India and Slovenia are expected to participate in the exhibition that will put on display the latest technological achievements in rail and transportation industries, wagon construction and transportation services.

Mr. Nazari added that the website of the Middle East Regional office was fully and comprehensively updated and UIC and UIC RAME news are inserted in the website. In a widespread action, the proceedings such as updating different documents, information related to the office, general information of member railways and also uploading new information of some of the members, organizational chart, new map of Middle East railways, upcoming UIC and region meetings and so on have been started in three languages of English, Persian, and Arabic. The website is being updated regularly.
